Methodology
This ranking is generated fresh from the PlainFertility dataset each time the page is requested, using total cycle volume, clinic count, and average success rate for each metro. Metros are ranked from highest to lowest total cycle volume and the top 10 are shown. Every number on this page comes directly from the current dataset, no figure is hardcoded, and the ranking updates automatically whenever the underlying Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data is refreshed.
Column lineage: each field maps to a typed column in the metros table. Identifier columns carry the entity slug or code used elsewhere in PlainFertility; quantitative columns store values as exported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (preserving the original measurement unit). Where the source publishes values in thousands of dollars, we render them via the standard PlainFertility money formatter that converts to billions or millions depending on magnitude. Cycle-volume totals sum clinic-reported total_cycles for the latest CDC ART National Summary report year per clinic; metros whose constituent clinics report under different latest-report years are not normalized to a single calendar window. Average success rates at metro level are unweighted means across constituent clinics; one large high-success clinic in a metro with many small lower-success clinics will not dominate the metro average proportional to its cycle volume. Patient-travel patterns mean a high-volume metro frequently serves residents from outside the metro boundary, the cycle totals reflect where treatment occurs, not where patients reside.
